Gunther's winning streak ends in Syracuse
The WWE's Holiday Live Tour in Syracuse, New York, on New Year's Day marked a significant moment in 2026. While the event lacked the 'Day 1 magic' of the past, it still delivered an exciting lineup of matches. One of the most notable moments was the end of Gunther's submission streak, though his overall dominance remains intact.
Card Changes and Absences
Live events often bring surprises, and this one was no exception. Several key stars were absent from the final card, including:
- Jey Uso
- LA Knight
- Tiffany Stratton
- Rhea Ripley
- Jacob Fatu
- Penta
Knight, Penta, and Fatu are currently sidelined due to injuries, both in-story and real-life. Stratton has been off television since November, when she lost the WWE Women's Championship to Jade Cargill. She was promoting WWE in Saudi Arabia during Riyadh Season.
Jey Uso's absence was particularly surprising, as he had been active on WWE's tour and on Raw, recently defeating Bron Breakker and winning the World Tag Team Championships with his brother Jimmy.
Rhea Ripley, who last wrestled on December 19, appeared on this week's episode, facing the Kabuki Warriors alongside Iyo Sky. She is set to compete on SmackDown tonight.
Noteworthy Wins and Losses
Bron Breakker snapped a losing streak on WWE's holiday tour, defeating the War Raiders alongside Bronson Reed. Breakker pinned Erik with a spear, ending their losing streak.
Michin, who left the tour early, was set to face Jade Cargill but was replaced by B-Fab, who has had recent issues with Cargill. Cargill emerged victorious.
Gunther's Submission Streak Ends
Gunther's six-match tapout streak came to an end on Thursday when he lost to Sami Zayn. Despite having Zayn in a sleeper hold, Gunther was rolled up for the pinfall victory before he could reach the ropes.
Main Event: Cody Rhodes vs. Drew McIntyre
In the main event, Cody Rhodes continued his winning streak, defeating Drew McIntyre for the fifth time on the tour. Rhodes pinned McIntyre after a top-rope splash through a table, with no disqualifications in effect.
The two will face off again next Friday on SmackDown in a Three Stages of Hell match, a traditional format with stipulations in the second and, if necessary, third falls.
The match will determine the Undisputed WWE Championship, and fans can expect a similar finish if no disqualifications are involved.
