Breaking News: The Chicago Wolves are shaking things up! In a move that's sure to send ripples through the hockey world, the Carolina Hurricanes organization, led by Associate General Manager and Chicago Wolves General Manager Darren Yorke, has decided to relieve Cam Abbott of his head coaching duties. But who's stepping in to fill the void?
Get ready for Spiros Anastas, who will be taking the reins as the interim head coach.
Anastas, a seasoned coach with a diverse background, joined the Wolves' coaching staff on August 28, 2024. Before his time with the Wolves, the 40-year-old Toronto native honed his skills in international competitions, coaching for Greece and China. He also served as a scout for the AHL's Manitoba Moose, giving him valuable insights into the league.
But here's where it gets interesting: Anastas brings a wealth of experience to the table. He's held head coaching positions with the ECHL's Brampton Beast and South Carolina Stingrays, as well as in Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS) with the University of Lethbridge. And his international coaching resume is equally impressive, with stints for Serbia, Estonia, and South Korea. Plus, he's no stranger to championship success, having won a Calder Cup as an assistant coach with the Grand Rapids Griffins back in 2013.
This change raises some interesting questions: What led to this decision? How will Anastas's coaching style impact the team? What do you think about this move? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
